Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason (2004)

I used to hate this kind of movies because the storyline could be easily expected ; the main character is single, not clever, manipulated by a handsome guy, and cry... I was thinking that the main character was created to be looked down on.

However, I tried to watch this because my favorite American drama refers to Bridget Jones and I thought this movie was a synonym for heartbreaks or something in Western countries.
And it was fun actually.

The big difference between similar comedies and Bridget Jones is that Bridget is an ordinary woman. Main characters tend to be matchless beauties and have perfect bodies even in comedies. Bridget even smokes. She was created to be empathized by women. Their ingenious marketing attracts me.

Hugh Grant doesn't suit this role unfortunately. His good points are all removed by the movie.
Some women like bad guys (My favorite Japanese fashion magazine has "Bad Guy" feature every months.) But how many women like his character?
